Security Overview
This paper is intended to give the reader in-depth information about the security and technology that is at the core of CentralDataVault; Argeis Technology’s secure enterprise online backup and recovery service.
How secure is my data?
An effective backup strategy by definition needs to be secure and reliable. To that end, Argeis Technologies has scrutinized every facet of its CentralDataVault backup and recovery solution to ensure that your data stays secure and is available when you need it.
Our Facilities
The data centers that house our backup servers provide world-class security. Our strong emphasis on security guarantees that only authorized persons have access to the facility. Physical access to the data center is protected by multiple layers of security including:
- Electronic key card access
- Personal identification number (PIN) access
- Closed circuit TV (CCTV) monitoring
- Secure backup server cages
Our Infrastructure
We’ve ensured that our data center’s network and power infrastructure ensure maximum reliability.
Redundant Network Infrastructure
Argeis Technologies utilizes connections to multiple network backbones to ensure maximum uptime. Our network has been designed with full multi-peer redundancy across several national network providers. This means that our network is unaffected even if one of our communication providers experience technical problems. Our network providers are comprised of nationally recognized telecom companies that have networks spanning the country and who have worked with us to build and maintain our world-class network.

Redundant Power
Our data center facilities are equipped with UPS systems capable of sustaining the facility in the event of a power loss. All UPS equipment is tested monthly.
Our Equipment
Argeis Technologies uses computer and networking equipment designed to provide the best in performance, quality, and reliability. To that end, all of the servers we use contain redundant power supplies, processors, and hard disks.
Encryption
In order to make our online backup solution completely secure, CentralDataVault encrypts all data and communications between the client application and the backup server. Your data is also encrypted as it’s stored on our secure backup servers. Once you create your secret encryption key, only you will be able to access your data; not even CentralDataVault staff members can view or retrieve your files.
The default encryption standard used by CentralDataVault is 448 bit Blowfish; however, we offer our customers three different encryption standards to choose from:
- DES
- Triple DES
- Blowfish
For more information about our encryption options, please see our Encryption Overview page.
FastBIT
In order to reduce the time and bandwidth involved with online backups, CentralDataVault employs FastBIT, a binary patching algorithm. Utilizing a complex algorithm and special memory management, binary patching is capable of comparing files and extracting “patches” of binary data that represent only the specific changes to those files. Simply put, If only 1 kilobyte of data has actually changed in a 1 megabyte file, then only a 1-kilobyte patch is extracted for backup thus eliminating the overhead of backing up the entire file
For more information about FastBIT, please see our FastBIT Overview page.
