How Do Online Backups Work?
With CentralDataVault setting up a complete backup solution couldn't be easier. Just follow these simple steps.
1. Install the client software
When you create an account with CentralDataVault, you are given a link to download the software client. Simply install the software by double clicking on the zipped archive.
2. Configure the backup
The client wizard will walk you through testing your connection to the backup server, creating a backup set, scheduling your backup, and creating a secret encryption key.
3. Run the backup
At the scheduled time, CentralDataVault performs your backup for you by:
- Compressing your data. Please refer to our FastBit compression page for more information.
- Encrypting the data using a 448 BIT Blowfish encryption. By comparison, banking transactions only require 128 bit encryption. Please refer to our encryption page for more information.
- Transmits the data to the CentralDataVault center. Please see our security page for more information on our data center.
- Once the initial backup is complete, CentralDataVault checks your files for changes, backing up only the bits that has been changed on each file. This provides a fast and more reliable backup process. With CentralDataVault, you won't have to do anything once your backup is scheduled -- no more tapes to keep track of and transport to offsite locations.
Using a Windows Explorer-like interface, select the data you want to backup and schedule a backup time and frequency (such as every night at 11:00 PM). That's it! CentralDataVault is fully automated -- after your file selection and scheduling, your files are automatically backed up at the specified time.
4. Restore
CentralDataVault provides you instant access to as many as 120 historical versions of your files... just two mouse clicks and your files are restored. Simply select the files you want to restore and click the "Restore Now" button.
Using CentralDataVault ensures that your data can be replaced any time, onto any computer, as often as necessary, even with no backup software installed. Just open your web browser and restore. It's that simple !!!
